History:
Acres of Land Winery is located on a 400 acre family farm purchased by Russell & Willie Mae Land in the 1940's. The farm's main crop of burley tobacco sustained the growth of the farm for over 50 years. With the decline of the burley tobacco quota and the death of Russell Land in 1998, Lowell & Katherine began to diversify into the wine industry. The agritainment business became Acres of Land Winery.
In 2000, Acres of Land planted their first vineyard consisting of 1.5 acres. The planting consisted of the Chambourcin, Vignoles, Mars & Reliance grape varietals. As of today, 8 acres of vineyards exists, with the expectation of more vineyeards being planted in the future. Along with the regional vines of Chambourcin, & Vignoles vinerifa vines such as Cabernet Sauvigon and Chardonnay are grown.
In 2003, Acres of Land established a wine production facility, with the capability of growth, on one of the original farms purchased in the 1940's by Lowell's parents. While producing our first vintage, we developed our logo which is also used as our labels on our wine bottles.
When naming our wines, we used names of people who owned parcels of the farm before the Land's purchased the property. In December 2004, Acres of Land began selling it's wine commercially. While using our production facility as our sales area, other building were constructed. We are currently in the process of doubling our wine production within the coming years.
In September 2005, a full-service restaurant with a tasting room and gift shop was completed. A former tobacco barn was renovated to serve our regional food favorites in a southern hospitality atmosphere. The original tobacco tier rails remain in place, with chandeliers highlighting our new adventure of the Winery. Also, located within walking distance of the restaurant is a garden where fresh vegetables are picked and used in the restaurant. The 150 sear restaurant also has a patio with awesome views of Madison County.
