Barboursville Vineyards

17655 Winery Road

Open: Year Round

Welcome to the home of Octagon, the wine that has come to define the viticultnral region envisioned by Tliomas Jefferson, and established here in 1976 by Gianni and Silvana Zonin.

Octagon derives its name from the symbolic centerpiece of this estate, the Great Room defining the mansion Jefferson created for Governor ]ames Barbour.

This wine crowns the pursuit of a constant vision, however, in all one encounters here to redeem the gift of a gracious, generous ground, with vintages of vivid beauty.

Barboursville is a wonderful winery in most all ways. The location and views are nice; and the people are friendly and knowledgeable. The wines are very good and tastings could not be better with the large number of wines and the great variety and generous pours for a very reasonable fee.....the best of all wineries in Virginia. The winery itself is very nice. I love the open fireplace and the continuous bar run for tastings. Wine prices are very reasonable compared to most wineries in Virginia. ( I fear that many wineries are pushing prices too high when Costco has so many great wines for under $20.) The main shortcoming of Barboursville is indoor and outdoor seating is limited and overall poor. Barboursville could do so much better, especially with outdoor seating. It's almost as if they don't want you to linger too long. They have some terrific views and could learn much from Pippin Hill Farm and Vineyard, who is the best in regard to indoor and outdoor seating and making the most of the wine experience....which you can't get at Costco.

Really enjoyed our visit. Very informative tour. Lunch at the Palladio restaurant was lovely - go with the wine pairings - but probably not worth a trip in itself. For tastings, don't miss the Paxxito dessert wine. Also be sure to visit "the ruins" the remains of the octagonal home Thomas Jefferson designed for James Barbour.
