Open: Year Round
Welcome to the home of Octagon, the wine that has come to define the viticultnral region envisioned by Tliomas Jefferson, and established here in 1976 by Gianni and Silvana Zonin.
Octagon derives its name from the symbolic centerpiece of this estate, the Great Room defining the mansion Jefferson created for Governor ]ames Barbour.
This wine crowns the pursuit of a constant vision, however, in all one encounters here — to redeem the gift of a gracious, generous ground, with vintages of vivid beauty.
The first time we visited the winery in 2016, we were a little too late to enjoy a full tasting. However, the staff was kind enough to allow us a mini tasting at the bar. The wines were delicious and the staff was extremely helpful with suggestions. We left with a case and a half of wine! We just visited again on Easter day 2017. We were happily surprised to find them open on a holiday. We were seated in their "library" which has a beautiful view and access to the porch. As a bonus, they had an Easter egg hunt which our children, ages 4 and 6, thoroughly enjoyed. We wanted to do a tasting and were thrilled with the selection we had to choose from. The staff were friendly and welcoming and even had juice and snacks for the kids. The room was comfortable and well appointed. We didn't feel rushed and even had cheese and meat platters with our tasting. I wish I could remember everyone's names because they really deserve the applause. They went above and beyond to make our visit a special one. We plan on visiting them every time we're in the area.
Great winery! It was fun to walk to the old govenor's mansion and they gave a ton of wine in their tasting.
Or favorite Virginia winery, we finally stayed there and love it even more. I miss the days of tasting the octagon and nebiollo, but at least you can buy the octagon by the glass. Wish you could do the same with the nebiollo.
We did a tasting here & I typically don't like red wines. EVERY wine I tasted there was fantastic! I even bought some to bring home! I will be back!
A lot of fun doing tasting hanging out and doing tastings. Beautiful scenery and friendly staff. My personal favourite is the cab franc reserve.
