About Us:

In 1964, Uriel Nielson planted the first commercial vineyard in Santa Barbara County. It was a bold act considering most of the experts deemed our windswept region too cold for grapes. Fortunately, Uriel didn't heed their warnings and one of the world's great winegrowing regions was born. At Nielson, we honor the vision and persistence of our namesake, as we continue to harvest grapes from the best parts of this coastal enclave. Since the early 1980's Santa Barbara County has been recognized as one of California's great wine regions. The mild climate and sandy soils make this the perfect locale for cool-climate varieties like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
