Founded in 1997, Chateau Margene is a boutique, micro winery located in the Creston District within the Paso Robles AVA (American Viticultural Association). We specialize in the production of very small lots of award-winning, luxury Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux style blends. The Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon based blends are crafted under the Chateau Margene label. Our sister label, Mooney Family, produces Pinot Noirs from the cooler climate of the Santa Lucia Highlands and Rhone blends from Paso Robles.
The focus is on handcrafting wines of intense character and varietal expression. With a total annual production of around 3,000 cases, the Chateau Margene & Mooney Family wines are crafted from vineyards using sustainable viticultural methods and with the use of old world winemaking techniques, where small batches of grapes are hand picked, hand sorted and fermented in 1 ton open top bins.
Chateau Margene's Beau Mélange, is our version of a "First Growth" Bordeaux style blend, sourced exclusively from our estate vineyard in the hills above Creston. With annual yields averaging 1.5 tons per acre, the superior fruit from this vineyard ages in 100% French Oak barrels for 32 months prior to bottling. Production for Beau Mélange is limited to three barrels (72 cases) per year.
Chateau Margene is also part of the Creston Wine Trail. Come to the beautiful countryside of Creston and experience five unique wineries and an award winning olive oil producer. Three locations offer lodging and the nearby town of Creston has the Loading Chute Restaurant and the Creston Country Store.
