Vineyards: Coyote Oaks Vineyards is located in Escondido, CA between San Diego and Temecula, 20 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Escondido was established in 1888 and her name means hidden in Spanish. The grapes are grown on a gently sloping terrain with a hint of marine air, low rainfall and plenty of sun. These factors permit an early and long growing season for cultivation of premium grapes.
In the 1800’s, Spanish Missionaries were spot on in recognizing the ideal region for growing grapes. Over a century later, vintners are now recognizing the best kept secret in California, the hidden gem of the South Coast AVA (American Viticultural Area). The South Coast AVA includes the grape growing regions in 5 counties of Southern California. These counties are Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego. This large appellation has warm weather with the cooling of the Pacific Ocean breezes and fog.
