About

It all began several years back. That year, there happen to be a bumper crop of pears. Nobody knew quite what to do with all of that fruit! Bob's brother-in-law loaned him some wine making equipment and some basic instructions on making wine. The seed was planted.... Bob's first "pear" wine was a raving success, and he discovered what would  become the beginning of a life long passion for wine.

Bob and Kathy joined an amateur wine club based in Clear Lake, Iowa and began to refine their skills. They settled in nicely with the club and began entering amatuer competitions. As it happens, they also discovered that they had a competetive streak! After acquiring wine equipment for 5 to 10 years and many wins in 2 amateur wine club competitions Bob was ready for the next step.

They chose the name Dome Winery because they built 2 geodesic domes along the Iowa River, north of Belmond, Iowa. The plan was to have a winery at that property but the "Floods of 2008" changed that. It was easier to buy a building on Main Street in beautiful downtown Belmond. Dome Winery opened immediately after the parade on July 4, 2014 and enjoys great success.
