Founded on a vision, a dream and a mission to create the full expression of what Rogue Valley wines can offer the palate, Jamie and Katherine McCleary began looking for the perfect location in 2007. Their search, fueled by the desire to find optimal soil and climate characteristics, brought them to one of the most storied little valleys of the Rogue region. Fern Valley drew them in with a rich heritage of farming, ranching, family, location and wonderful views. A purchase was made and Jaxon Vineyards was born.
Katherine & Roxie at planting timeTurning an old pear farm into a vineyard requires considerable elbow-grease. Blessed with strong backs and much determination, Jamie and Katherine proceeded to clear the land, rip and amend the soil, and research varietals of grapes best suited to this unique micro-climate. With climatologist consulted, viticultural classes attended, soil amended, root stock selected, irrigation system built, and trellis system in place, we chose four wonderful, noble grape varieties for planting in June of 2009.
Jaxon is a signature vineyard of the Rogue Valley’s incredible strengths with notable similarities to several of the world’s finest growing regions, including France’s Rhone Valley and Spain’s Rioja. We envision the Rogue’s unique potential will shine through the wines we create with passion, focus, and time.
