OUR STORY
Our winery story began as many great stories do - over a glass of wine and conversation. Meet the Nordlof's: John brings the logic - he laid out the manufacturing areas and keeps the accounting. Gail brings the creative - makes the wine and the marketing materials. Son Bruce cooks, helps make wine and fixes everything. Daughter Jaimie hosts the tasting room, runs the staff, and paints amazing wineglasses. With our diverse skill set, passion and hard work, plus some great staff - including grandchildren and some who might as well be family - that's how Northleaf Winery was born.
OUR BUILDING
In the summer of 1844, 4 years before Wisconsin became a state, John Alexander built a wheat warehouse, made of lime mortar and hand hewn beams. It is remembered mostly as the Sunnyview Orchard Warehouse and is on the National Registry of Historic Places. We began restoration in 2007. By 2008, we were licensed and making wine, and officially opened for sales on February 11, 2009. Our building has been a place where family and community have come together through the years. Now it's filled with wine, camaraderie and good fun! We invite you to come, savor and enjoy the experience!
OUR WINES
Our wines are made with fruit that comes mostly from California, but also from such diverse places as Chile, New York State and wonderful Wisconsin. We have wines to suit many palates, from Old World classics to New World favorites. Nearly all of the current 36 wines on the shelves in our tasting room have won mutliple awards in international wine competitions - but more importantly - they have won favor by those visiting our tasting room!
