NW Wine Company was founded in May of 2003 when a partnership was formed between Laurent Montalieu, Danielle Andrus-Montalieu, and John Niemeyer of Oregon Wine Services with the goal to provide a custom winegrowing facility that strives to produce quality from fruit to wine. Under the supervision of Partner and Executive Winemaker, Laurent Montalieu, NW Wine Company works with vineyard owners ranging from 1 acre to 200 acres throughout Oregon and Washington to ensure quality starts with fruit. Laurent and NW Wine Company's Winemaking Team use state-of-the-art winemaking tools, small lot fermentations, astute cooperage and blending to craft wines that are true to their variety and display their unique sense of place.
In 2007 NW Wine Company purchased the 120 acre Hyland Vineyard, which is deeply rooted in Oregon's wine history being first planted in 1971. The vineyard is planted at 600 to 800 feet in the foothills of the Coast Range within the McMinnville AVA. The south facing bench creates its own unique mesoclimate that keeps the site cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter allowing for a longer and more uniform ripening conducive to premium wine grapes. In fact, Hylands grapes have been contributing to decades of top scoring wines for many benchmark producers. In 2008 and 2009, 81 additional acres were planted to give 201 total acres on the volcanic Jory and Nekia soils. Hyland features Pinot noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, Gewürtraminer, and Müller-Thurgau. The combination of soil, microclimates, elevation, and some of the oldest and best plantings consistently put Hyland in the forefront of Oregon's vineyards. Hyland Vineyard is the sole source for the Hyland Estates Wines, showcasing the historic Pinot Noir, Riesling and Gewürztraminer planted on the site over the last four decades.
