St. Jorge Winery is a winery located in Acampo , California. The winery is owned by Vierra Family (Vern Jeanice). This Portuguese family has been growing food and making wine for hundreds of years. Wine making at St. Jorge is a priority over all other business. The goal is to use the best grapes in the Lodi area and make wine the best way. The grapes are choice picked by hand and brought into the winery at day break. The red wine grapes are not crushed and de-stemmed only. Using a Mistral 60 from Vaucher Bequet, maximum clean sorting is accomplished. After final sorting the berries are vacuumed into the tanks with a Francesca Pump .Usually a three day cold soak prior fermentation is used to allow the juice to soak up all the good fruit flavors. Fermentation is started using our chiller to control the temperature. Wine is racked into French oak barrels for about 18 months before bottling.
St Jorge produces mostly Portuguese varietals such as Verdelho, Torrontes, Tempranillo, Tinto Cao, Touriga National, Souzao and Alveralho. We also produce Lodi favorites, such as Zinfandel and Alicante Bouschet. Ports and additional Portuguese blends will be added to the 2010 production.
