About
The roots of the Szabo family lie in he town of Edger, Hungary, where there have been vindeyards since Roman times and where they produce the famous Egri Bikaver ("Bull's Blood") wine. Legend has it that the name Egri Bikaver originated during battles with the Turks in 1522. The people of Eger were so succesful in repelling the Turkish invasion that it was rumored they had been given red wine mixed with bull's blood.
A genetic predisposition for full-throttled, robust red wines led Sandor (aka Alex) Szabo to develop a great appreciation for the finest European wines. His desire to produce only the best quality grapes and ultimately the best quality wine is derived from this experience.
