About Us
John Girt
Our winemaker lived many years just south of Napa. He spent this time developing his palate at some of Napa and Sonoma Valley's best wineries. When he returned to Seattle in 1993, he was surprised how much the Washington Wine industry had grown in both size and quality. Initially a supporter and eventually a participant in the Washington wine industry, he had never thought of taking on the enormous task of building his own label. He grew up thinking that "pink" wine and Grenache were sweet wines lacking in fullness and depth of character. But, while on a trip to the south of France, he discovered a whole new world of Rose and went about tasting as many as possible from every varietal, and region of the world. He produced his first wine in 2003, a Grenache with juice from Alder Ridge vineyards. He was stuck.... Thanks Bob!
Tracy Maher
John's wife and partner in so many ways... calls herself the winery Quality Assurance Department. Aside from assuring that all of the winery equipment is sterilized before and after each use, John depends on her unusually articulate tasting diagnosis of each wine. Tracy's family has a long history of supporting agriculture in Washington. For nearly forty years her father invested in grass farms and orchards in the Pacific Northwest. She and her family continue as partners in orchards in Quincy. Tracy is thrilled to be able to support fruit growers in her native state through Tiger Mountain Winery.
