All of the Waitsburg Cellars wines we are presenting during this first release began as concepts. We were invited to tap into the expansive vineyard and winery resources that Precept Wine owns and operates, to design and produce anything we wanted. Sometimes a blank canvas can be so big, and so blank, that it's tough to fill. But in this instance, the ideas just seemed to flow naturally, and the results will be there for you to taste.
In the process of designing the labels, we decided to create a unifying graphic, something like the crests and shields that often adorn old world wine labels. The different components are meant to represent aspects of this Waitsburg life that are woven into the matrix of the wines. We are not talking about yeasts and barrels, but rather more ephemeral, ethereal threads of our existence - the essential fabric of our small town life.
We sought to make wines that were authentic expressions of their grape varieties (or blends), that were crisply defined, impeccably balanced, immediately appealing and yet also age-worthy. These are meant to be focused examples of things that Washington state vintners do better than anyone in the country. There was also a desire to explore new and untraveled paths, as well as to renovate certain varietal wines that had fallen into neglect in recent times.
We invite you to join us for the upcoming launch of Waitsburg Cellars. We value your opinions, and look forward to your comments on each of these wines.
