Open: Year-Round
Wines of the San Juan is a grassroots family operation with a big vision. Rooted in historical "cowboy" culture, the Arnold family has farmed and ranched from the dairy land of Wisconsin, to the canyon country and cow camps near the Four Corners. Raised in the sanctuary of the cowboy-era, where the term sustainable living first originated, the Arnold's developed a pioneer sense of responsibility to the land, where the cultivation of hands-on attention to detail comes first.
In August of 1999 David & Marcia Arnold purchased a plot of land in Turley, New Mexico. The idea of turning rabbit brush and thorns into a vineyard was a lofty vision when they first turned into that craggy lane, with a barbed wire gate and broken down for sale sign. But trash to treasure developed with the sweat of the brow from the entire family at Wines of the San Juan. By 2002 they found themselves establishing a vineyard.
Self taught and still novices, the family was determined to work their land and make a living from it. Ten years later, they've all but perfected the art of making, bottling, and selling the product as wine. Much trial, error, and success has transformed the property into a winery where events are hosted, festivals are provided, and weddings are thrown.
